Biography
Tobi is a PhD student on the Thermal Energy Grid Storage (TEGS) project. For TEGS, he is characterizing the efficiency of the thermophotovoltaic (TPV) systems and working on the laboratory-scale prototype to tackle TPV thermal and electrical design challenges. Tobi has been awarded the NSF GRFP and GEM Fellowships, and desires to address the clean energy transition’s technical and social challenges. Outside of the lab, he has done science policy advocacy at The United States Congress and worked with MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning to establish “Green” permanent affordable-housing in the Greater Boston area.
Before coming to MIT, Tobi graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. At UMBC, he was a Meyerhoff Scholar, LSAMP Researcher, and member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). During the summers of 2021 and 2022, he conducted research in the ASE Lab as a MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP) Intern. He also completed research through the MIT MIRCO Program during Fall 2021 – Spring 2022 under Professor John Hart in The Mechanosynthesis Group.
During his free time, Tobi enjoys reading, skateboarding, hiking, travelling, and volunteering at his church.
