Dr. Mehdi Pishahang

Biography

Dr. Pishahang joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT as a Research Scientist in 2018. Prior to MIT, he was a Research Scientist in SINTEF (Oslo, Norway) from 2012 to 2018, where he worked on Sustainable Energy Technologies in close collaboration and partnership with some of the most important and influential international chemical and energy companies from Europe, China and the Middle East. He holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) in Metallurgical Engineering (2001–2005), and Materials Engineering (2005–2008), respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Materials Chemistry (2008–2012) from University of Oslo (Oslo, Norway).

At ASE research group Dr. Pishahang’s research focuses on development of crucial components used in high temperature thermal and thermo-chemical energy conversion and storage systems. As a senior member of the group, he oversees and manages the research activities in the ASE lab at MIT–31–380. He also acts as the MIT project manager for three DOE Solar projects focusing on concentrated solar through molten salt circulation and pyrolysis, as well as an ARPA-E project focusing on development of a novel grid level thermal energy storage/conversion concept, known as “Sun in a Box”.
