Dr. Colin Clancy Kelsall

Biography

Colin is pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He is advised by Dr. Asegun Henry and his research is focused on heat transfer, mass transfer, and high-temperature energy conversion. He earned a Master’s degree from MIT in 2018, working with Dr. Evelyn Wang on solar thermophotovoltaic energy conversion systems. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2012, with a Thermal, Fluids, and Energy Conversion concentration. He interests lay in addressing climate change through the development of energy technologies capable of reducing the world’s reliance on fossil fuels.

In addition to academic research, Colin has been a part of two start-up companies as both a contributor and a founder. He worked on battery cooling and integration for Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, a company founded to investigate Elon Musk’s Hyperloop concept with a crowd collaboration approach. He also co-founded and acted as CTO for a renewable energy company, Eden GeoPower, focused on repurposing non-producing oil and gas wells for geothermal energy generation using an organic rankine cycle.
